In the dark, early morning on this past December 10th, there was a total lunar eclipse! And if we could keep our eyes open, all of us in the Northern hemisphere could see this amazing event. A total lunar eclipse occurs at full moon only, but the sun, earth and moon have to be in perfect alignment. There was a partial lunar eclipse viewed from France in 1880. Scholars think it is very likely Van Gogh saw this heavenly event and was inspired to paint “Starry Night.” Did you see the eclipse?
I was not aware of the lunar eclipse and did not see it but loved your iPhone painting of it.
Plus I had no idea that Van Gogh’s painting was of a lunar eclipse as well. It was a treat seeing
both paintings on your blog!

Kirby, I love your blog! Starry Night is cool, but your lunar eclipse on the i phone is crazy cool! Just moved into a new house and Irene Goodnight is what I based all the colors on. So many people have commented on it! Yay Kirby!

I was reminded of how so often gazing at a painting brings up feelings that were already there, but not so well formed. Both you and Van Gogh brought up how I feel at night when I come home to my house. I always stop outside (it’s usually dark), and I look up into the heavens. Always calms me down and fills me with awe. I try to take all that into the house with me. I also have thoughts about how long Van Gogh must have worked on that painting, and yet you clicked off a photo and enjoyed working with it right in the moment. I keep having these questions come up about what is art? and what is talent? and what is creative? I like thinking about it. Lydia
