American art is evolving!
American art is pushing all the boundaries!
It is almost inconceivable how much the work of American artists has changed in the past 250 years. This mind-boggling evolution is brilliantly presented by three renowned San Diego museums…The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, The San Diego Museum of Art and the Timken Museum of Art. These classy museums have pooled their art treasures for a knockout show.
BEHOLD, America!
America’s art is presented with the three themes of Figures, Frontiers and Forms; dating from before the revolution in 1771 to the latest contemporary pieces.
See for yourself the evolution!
Figures
Frontiers
Forms
Yes! American art has definitely evolved.

Great video tour! Thanks. I am still amazed by the imagination of these wonderful contemporary artist, but my spine tingles when I see the beauty and detail of the pre 20th century masters. What a great idea here to compare and see the changes the world has brought about. Again, thank you.
Loved the video and the pieces you showed. It made me want to see the whole show.
Thank you!
What a palpably pulchritudinous pendulosity of a hobo by Currin! The face and hair rival Botticelli.
Pulchritudinous pendulosity?? My thoughts exactly!

You do have a knack for bringing to our attention that which might never have entered our mind. And what a gift modern technology brings to us with the not only verbal but also visual presentation by our amazingly wonderful docent, Kirby!!
thanks Kirby, you are wonderful and your site makes my day!!! suzanne getz
Kirby, the blog is beautiful and of course the art is beautiful. I am going to see the rest of the show.
Thanks, Marilyn
Kirby. Congratulations on your effort to encourage, promote and acknowledge the presence of art in San Diego. My take on art in San Diego, however, is a bit different. Kudos to the art that you portray so well. But, it is just a brief highlight to an otherwise minor accomplishment for our community. Our museums are underfunded, and barely recognized outside of a small circle . The culture of art, dance, classical music, in my opinion, is almost an afterthought. Example: The one dedicated classical music radio station that broadcasts to our locality is beamed out of Tijuana. 104.7 FM has an outstanding library of classical music. San Diego has been unsuccessful in supporting one [1]. Do not intend to damn the obvious, but lets recognize reality. Lets try to encourage the maturation of a major void in this city – art and its benefits is a major part of civilization.
Hi, Kirby. I couldn’t decide which part of this blog intrigued me the most: the paintings you chose to show of America’s evolution or YOUR evolution. I think you did a great job of showing pieces in the exhibit, which made me want to see the whole scene. Seems like you’ve added another dimension to your creative outreach. This reminds me of what an impact an inspiring person can have on friends and others in the world. Thanks for adding so much to my day. L
What fun, Kirby, to see you on YouTube. Our whole family stopped everything to watch you curate your own adventure! You rock! From Henri to Guston – what a treat AND learning experience.
